Shining Through: The GK Ladies

Coming Soon

Gawad Kalinga is the most revolutionary citizen's organization that has touched hundreds of lives in a wide cross-section of Philippine society. To say that GK beneficiaries are "the poorest of the poor" does not do justice to the fact that GK has enriched the lives of both the giver and the receiver in more ways than one. Based on the traditional Filipino value of bayanihan, the GK revolution has made it possible to improve life conditions, so that there is no longer the need to shed blood as the katipuneros were compelled to do.

As it always is with movements in its early years, the workers are few and the work vast, because the majority of 80 million Filipinos have been suffering poverty and deprivations for the last few decades.

As it was then in Bonifacio's Katipunan, so is it now with the GK women who work alongside with their menfolk, not very visible but their strong and loving support shining through always. Three ladies of the GK, Lyn (wife of GK director Tony Meloto) and Gerry (wife of CFC Executive Director Frank Padilla) and Maria (wife of GKvolunteer Jose Montelibano) have one thing in common, a face made more beautiful by the kindness, generosity and moral strength that shine through.
