Gary Builds for GK

Gary V arrives with Tony Meloto and walks up the path towards the GK community in Prayer Mountain

 As Gary V walks down one of the unpaved streets of Prayer Mountain, an excited crowd of GK residents follow Gary V to the place where he will be helping build a house he has funded.

Prayer Mountain is a relocation site up in the hills of Antipolo. There are over a thousand families that have been moved there from many places and the development of the place has been less than ideal. Truth to tell, no other squattter relocation site has ever been developed to be attractive to the informal settlers they were intended for. Always, the lack of funds have been cited as the main reason for the state of all relocation sites.

Gary V can sing and dance and he can build.

Gawad Kalinga has adopted Prayer Mountain and is transforming it to be one of its larger GK communities. Gary Valenciano has also adopted Prayer Mountain to be his favorite GK community and the one where houses will be built in his name. The recent GK777 concert where Gary was the main performer introduced Gary to Gawad Kalinga work. He has agreed to promote the GK movement and begn by donating and building houses in Prayer Mountain.

The much awaited photo session - with a slight twist. Gary leads the residents into what will be a familiar GK battle cry, "Kasali ako Diyan!"Gary Valenciano is a superstar performer in the Philippines. And it is not only because of his singing and energetic dancing, but also because he has been a 25-year old diabetic who knows he is alive only because a greater power has allowed him to buck the odds.
